This project located west of Spearfish, South Dakota, near South Dakota’s border with Wyoming, included 38 lane miles of concrete pavement crack & seat and asphalt overlay. Antigo averaged 6.3 lane miles per day by completing the crack & seat in 6 work days.
The South Dakota DOT Crack & Seat specification required inducing full-depth cracks without loss of interlock at a crack spacing of 24″ +/- 6″. 44 concrete cores were drilled and removed to verify proper cracking was being achieved. The cracked & seated lanes were reopened to traffic for several days prior to beginning the paving of the asphalt overlay.
